As a web design agency that mainly serves small and medium-sized businesses in India, we are often asked by clients to redesign an existing website. It’s common for small businesses to want to update or redesign their websites. There are many reasons for this.

But first, let’s understand what redesigning a website means and how it is different from updating a website.

A complete redesign requires a lot of work. It’s not just about changing a couple of graphics on the home page, redoing the logo or updating the product offering.

A website redesign includes…

#1: Changing the way information is structured or presented on the website.

#2: Changing the overall look and feel of the different pages on the website.

#3: Using a different software for the website: Changing the existing content management system or the shopping cart solution to something better.

#4: Improving user experience (UX).

A website redesign is not easy; it can take a lot of time and requires a serious amount of effort. Same as building a new website from scratch. It’s not something you should attempt to do yourself — always hire the experts such as Web Impetus for your website redesign.

How do you know if your website requires a complete overhaul or a redesign?

3 Reasons to Redesign Your Website

Reason #1: Your website sucks.

We are often asked to redesign websites that are barely functional and impossible to use. Such websites take ages to load, are full of broken links, or old product offerings. Even the layout is not optimized for the mobile or for the latest browsers.

Such websites are a pain to visit, and it’s no surprise that they don’t generate any sales for the business. Having such a website can actually turn off a visitor, and it’s far better not to have a website than to have one that sucks.

Reason #2: Your website is not mobile responsive.

Back in the early 2000s, not even one website was mobile responsive. The launch of the iPhone in 2007 and the subsequent release of Android phones changed that — web designers were forced to make their websites responsive to all mobile platforms.

The smartphone penetration in India is already very high and still growing. Most Indians access the internet through the mobile. So if your website is not mobile responsive, that is going to turn them off and cost you a substantial chunk of business.

Also, Google has made the mobile-friendliness of a website as one of its ranking factors. So if your website is not mobile responsive, then it can be banished to the lower reaches of Google’s SERPs (search engine results pages.)

Reason #3: You want to improve the website’s UX.

So your website is not delivering much in terms of User Experience (UX). UX is a new design principle that has become critical to the success of any website. UX deals with the emotional experience someone has when they visit your website, navigate through it and see what it has to offer.

Poor UX means slow site load times, difficult navigation and unnecessarily complex or cluttered web design. Poor UX can cost you: according to a survey, 88% of online buyers said that they were less likely to revisit a business website after a bad experience.
